The Top 10 Golf Courses Worldwide

Each year hundreds of thousands of people are happy to dedicate time and money to playing the sport of golf. They don’t only want to play on courses close to where they live but many would like to have the opportunity to play those around the globe also. In this article we take a look at what some may consider to be the top 10 golf courses worldwide.

Course 1 – Cape Kidnappers, New Zealand – When it comes to courses that are a challenge and have breathtaking scenery this is one of them. The course which has views over the Pacific Ocean and situated on a 2,000 hectare sheep farm was designed by Tom Doak an American Architect is suitable for golfers of all levels.

Course 2 – Royal County Down, Northern Ireland (UK) – This is a beautiful course that has been established for some considerable time now and looks out over the Irish Sea. This is course that has been designed by Tom Morris and it is the 7th and 12th holes which offer the greatest challenge to any player of this sport.

Course 3 – Pebble Beach, USA – This is one course in the USA that as long as you can pay the green fees will allow you to play on it. This is one of the oldest courses in the USA and was designed by Douglas Grant and Jack Neville more than 90 years ago. The biggest challenge player’s face at this course are the water hazards located around holes 5 to 8.

Course 4 – Leopard Creek, South Africa – This is a course like none other on this list of top 10 golf courses worldwide. As well as the normal hazards to be faced there are others movable ones also. You need to be careful when playing as the wildlife likes to roam around the greens as much as the players. When it comes to the water hazards be very vigilant as this is where the crocodiles may be found lazing in the sun.

Course 5 – Green Monkey, Barbados – This course has been created by one of the worlds best designers of golf courses namely Tom Fazio. The course covers a total of 7,400 yards across a tabletop landscape. However, the first few holes may leave you uninspired but when you reach the 9th then things really change. This hole is a par five but in order to reach the green you must first hit it down 100ft into a quarry and once down here you are enclosed by towering walls of rock.

Course 6 – Turnberry, Scotland – Often a course that is forgotten about as this is the country where the world famous St Andrews course is to be found. But is one that is worth visiting as you have two courses here that you can in fact play.

Course 7 – Valderrama, Spain -The new course was opened in 1985 and is a course that many professionals and also amateur golfers would like to play. Situated in Spain’s Andalucian region it provides players with stunning views out over the Mediterranean Sea. The course is very challenging but hole 5 is the one that provides players with the biggest challenge of all as the green is two tiered.

Course 8 – St Andrews Old Course, Scotland – This is not only the most well established and prestigious course in the world it is believed to be the one where the game of golf originated. The course is one designed to be played by golfers of all skill levels and is one that will help improve the way one plays.

Course 9 – Augusta, USA – This is a course which on paper looks relatively easy to play but the challenge comes from the weather. The course was designed by Clifford Roberts and Alister Mackenzie and opened in 1933 and it is still a course that golfers from around the world would like to play.

Course 10 – Ballybunion, Southern Ireland – Want a course that is a challenge but has beautiful scenery this is one to consider visiting. Found in County Kerry, Ireland this course has been situated in the same location since 1893. Today it is considered to be one of the top 10 golf courses worldwide because of the changes made to expand it.
